How do you feel about domestic spying?
In Orewell's novel, 1984, the author wrote about something called "double think" Thats when the media contrives to get you to take both sides of an argument. For example, the US Patriot act virualy did away with your right to privacy by giving government agencies free liscense to wiretap whomever they saw fit without a judicial consent. Americans knew about the provisions, but went along with them anyway because they felt it made them safer from "terrorists". That would be "double think", ergo " I am made safer by giving up my rights" or " I am more free for giving up my freedoms". I think the prevailing opinion was then (and may still be) that "If I have nothing to hide, then why should I care if I am being spied on?" Should you care? Do you care? Today you may have nothing to hide, what if your political view or religion becomes unpopular in the future? Suppose the government wants to,at some point, start spying on Republicans, or Democrats, or Jews or Atheists? You do realize that they already can if they so choose? Are you OK with that?
