Why should anyone be allowed to refuse to join a union and pay the dues?

How could anyone believe that they should not be forced to join a union? Right to work laws are ridiculous. There are no constitutional guarantees that would keep someone from having to join a union and pay their dues. How does Oklahoma and other right to work states justify not making people pay union dues and have their benefits based on a collective group and not their own merit?
